The start of many popular waterfall hikes on the Big Island and Oahu have very structural guides. Walking to the waterfall is no longer a hike where you have to watch the terrain but rather a scenic stroll alongside the native plants and animals. It is an attempt to keep people safe to these popular destinations. In “The Real Hike to Akaka Falls” the stairs guide people to the falls. This is one of the few images where we can almost look past the stairs and imagine this place without man made structures. But the action of removing the stairs brings attention to the man made structure due to the “color” the laser gives the stairs.
